Continuing her blog series on promotional opportunities within EHRs, Klick's VP of Media Planning, Johanna Maulawin now takes a look at the global landscape. Here’s what pharma marketers need to know…

With the growing adoption of US EHRs, increasing opportunities of promotional messages within the workflow and proven ROI, there is an appetite to leverage similar promotional programs globally. However, after a couple of days of investigation, the search produced no opportunities.

That’s not to say there will never be any, it’s just that the various markets have different adoption rates of EHR vendors, EHR market laws, complications with implementation and support, costs, etc., let alone offer promotional opportunities.

 

Who are the players?

In the US, by far, eClinicalWorks is the preferred choice, based on the latest Capterra Report . Epic, which ranks second in total users have global presence and, according to a KLAS Global Performance report from 2015, it ranks high in user-perception in Europe.

 

 

In the same report, amongst multiple countries including Europe, Asia and the Middle East, Cerner and Intersystems are the preferred vendors.

An additional source from Global & US EHR-EMR Market Research Report, shows the top EHR European vendors: eClinicalWorks, Praxis EMR, Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc., Cerner Corporation, NextGen Healthcare, Medical Information Technology, Inc., Epic Systems, 4medica, Athenahealth, Inc., GE Healthcare. Of the list, only one vendor allows for promotional opportunities in the US, but has not indicated any plans for global expansion.

From the list of EHR/EMR and partner vendors in the US that offer promotional opportunities, only one company indicated plans for expansion later this year in several countries (one that didn’t rank in the above sources). It is unclear, when and what type of promotional opportunities will be available; however, we’ll continue to monitor the market.
