There have been various news stories about Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Apple all accessing user audio to help train their speech recognition systems recently and this has spooked regulators in the EU and US.
“This is just another case of the tech platforms taking advantage of their terms and conditions requirements and vision to build out their own data and ad platforms,” said [Charlie Yeates, commercial trading, partner, MediaCom London]. After all, it is the in-home speaker market that has the most potential for growth as they’re present in consumer conversations for so much, including utilities, security, TV subscriptions and household goods, he added.

- Aug 2: Amazon announces users can turn off human review
- Aug 2: Apple apologies and suspends human review of audio (called it -Ed.)
- Aug 1: Google under investigation for the same reason and was ordered to stop transcribing for three months
- Aug 26: Facebook under investigation for the same reason
