The estimates for the growth of smartwatches vary wildly as the new technology just starts to grab consumers’ interest. Some findings:
- 38% of users would buy a smartwatch for “serious” health use (not just fitness)
- The as-yet unannounced Apple Smartwatch is the number one product consumers want to purchase, even though it’s not yet available, showing the brand power Apple still has
- Price will be the largest impediment to sales, with 40% of consumers willing to pay $99 and only 8% willing to pay $299 or more
In any event, smartwatches are a technology that healthcare marketers would do well to keep tabs on.
