There were two stories about Apple Health Records last week, the biggest being the VA talking to the tech giant about a customized personal health record solution based on it.
According to the WSJ, who reviewed emails and spoke with unnamed sources about the initiative, what’s currently on the table is a new Apple software that would let the VA patients enrolled in the system transfer their records to their iPhone — a functionality that would likely be achieved via a version of Apple’s Health Records app.
The other story was about Ascensia integrating its Contour Diabetes app and Contour Next One glucometer with the Apple Health system. This was apparently due to consumer demand:
“We started to receive feedback from users of the Contour Diabetes app via App Store reviews and social media that being able to view their data in Apple Health Kit was critical for the management of their health,” [Rick Stadterman, the global head of R&D at Ascensia Diabetes Care] wrote in an email response. “It became apparent that this was a priority for people with diabetes, so we created the integration with Apple Health and launched it as soon as possible.”
