A study by Telcare performed on SurveyMonkey netted the researchers a cross-section of 2,535 patients and family members:
- 16% had diabetes
- 21% were caregivers for someone with diabetes
- 61% knew someone living with diabetes
Since there is a small payment from SurveyMonkey for survey fills there is incentive for respondents to fill out the surveys even if they only know someone peripherally. However, the SurveyMonkey platform is very inexpensive and good for quick results.
Findings from these respondents provided some interesting numbers:
- 85% of people with diabetes trust technology
- 76% of caregivers trust technology
- 52% of the general group trust technology, indicating that the 61% of “friends” must have had much lower numbers than the patients and caregivers
- 71% reported they would use technology to track their fitness goals
- 65% of people want doctors to incorporate technology into their recommended care plans
- 77% of millennials are interested in using technology to track their family’s health and fitness
- 55% of millennials with diabetes communicate with their doctors more often because of health apps
