A survey of doctors shows that pagers are still prevalent in hospitals and they are being used for patient-care related (PCR) information.
- 79.8% of clinicians had hospital-provided pagers
- 49% said they received PCR information most commonly by pager
- 26.6% said their institution had a secure messaging application
- 7.3% said that their institution had implemented an app that most HCPs were using
The replacement of pagers with smartphones that can text or use a secure communication app is slow and many hospitals need to upgrade their wireless networks to make that transition.
