About Fiona
Over a decade ago, Fiona decided to move on from her career as a professional actor and pursue creativity in a brand new way. But going into advertising wasn’t so much a change in direction as it was an evolution of her career.
Fiona’s background as an actor has given her an edge in creative – especially when it comes to healthcare. She knows how to put herself in her audience’s shoes and figure out what motivates them. Doing this takes her ideas beyond pure communication to a place where they really resonate with the audience.
Her experience spans consumer audiences, where her career as a copywriter began, to professional and patient audiences, where that extra fact or insight makes a critical difference. In recent years Fiona has worked on a wide range of GP and specialist brands covering a spectrum of therapeutic categories. And being an ePatient herself, working in the digital space is more than job – it’s a passion.
Why are you passionate about health and wellness?
The short answer: it’s just who I am. I’ve always been interested in health and wellness. The long answer: I truly believe that people need to be advocates for their own health. We as individuals can make a difference – especially now that we have access to more and more information through the internet. I speak from personal experience when I say that the more involved you are in your healthcare, the better your results.
What excites you about technology and its role in healthcare?
Research shows that “helplessness” of a patient can negatively affect health outcomes. Unfortunately, until a short while ago, the general public couldn’t readily access health information – information on prevention, screening, what lab tests mean, how to optimize therapy, and the list goes on. But the fact is, being in the dark does make us helpless to some degree. With technology, we can be partners instead of just patients. And I’m so excited that we’re beginning to realize the potential we each have as partners in our own health.
What are your passions outside of work?
Well, my family of course – I have a husband and two boys ages 8 and 3. Music is what brought my husband and I together and it still plays a big role in our family. (In fact, I still play the odd gig with the hubby and we fantasize about having the boys play with us one day too). I’m also into dancing, running, hiking and fashion.
