About Alf

Alf is responsible for the Systems Administration, Quality Assurance, and Security practices at Klick Health. He brings 8 years of experience in software development and high-performance computing to the Klick team, combining his scientific background with an appreciation of the craft of code-writing to pioneer innovative test practices for the QA team. His security experience includes defense of high-profile targets against active threats. The goal of his position is simple: to weave security and quality into everything the technical team produces and operates.

The healthcare industry presents unique challenges such as maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality across all systems and campaigns we build. In any situation involving compliance with data security, privacy and confidentiality standards, such as HIPAA, Alf will lend his experience to designing a solution that is both compliant and secure.

Why are you passionate about health and wellness?

Disease is one of the worst affronts to personal happiness and liberty. I believe that one of the best ways to create a good society is by doing as much as we can to alleviate the burden of disease on our people.

What excites you about technology and its role in healthcare?

Information technology has been changing everything in the world around us, but much of healthcare still seems to be stuck in a paper-based mindset. I’m very interested to see what new efficiencies can be found by applying sophisticated information processing to the healthcare setting, both in the clinical arena and in the research lab. My own research background is in a field which didn’t even exist 70 years ago and now constitutes a “third branch” of the sciences (experimental, theoretical, computational). Surely something just as important can happen with healthcare, and the benefits of that change will be of benefit to everyone. From the e-patient movement to improving clinical trial recruiting, Klick has been a great opportunity to jump in and see what can happen.

What are your passions outside of work?

My interests include astronomy, physics, curling and soccer. I’m presently completing my PhD dissertation on high-performance astrophysics simulations.
